Short walk in the heart of the village and on the port

Strolling through the small neighborhoods of Saint-Trojan, you can discover the seaside architecture that makes the resort so unique. The many 19th and early 20th century villas, inspired by the Basque, Anglo-Norman or neo-Gothic, immerse you in the heart of the Belle Époque when the fashion for "sea bathing" swept over Saint-Trojan. Continue your discovery towards the small oyster port, a great place for family walks. Take the time to stroll along the traditional huts that have now become artists' and craftsmen's workshops or small restaurants. At lunchtime, you will enjoy a delicious Red Tuna Tartare with Raspberries or a cuttlefish à la plancha!

Beaches and water sports in Saint-Trojan

Facing due south and supervised in summer, Gatseau beach is very popular with campers for its authentic and wild setting. Families love to relax there in the shade of the pine trees while the children enjoy the seaside activities. A stone's throw from the town centre, the Petite Plage offers a lovely view of the Marennes-Oléron region. If you are a fan of water sports, head to the Grande Plage at the entrance to St Trojan. It is home to a sand yachting school and a surf school. The resort also offers other opportunities to practice your favourite water sport: sea kayaking, pirogue, kitesurfing, catamaran, windsurfing, dinghy or even stand-up paddle will be on the programme for your camping holiday... If you want to get away from it all, treat yourself to a mini-cruise between Saint-Trojan-les-Bains and La Tremblade or a day of sea fishing to bring back some beautiful sea bass, meagre and red tuna to grill on the barbecue!

The little story of Saint-Trojan…

Before becoming the charming family resort as we know it today, Saint-Trojan was a modest village of fishermen and salt workers, isolated from the rest of the island and threatened by silting up! In the 19th century, it was decided to build a dune cordon and plant a pine forest to contain the advance of the sand. Later, the first regular maritime links and the inauguration of a railway line allowed Saint-Trojan-les-Bains to become one of the top holiday resorts on Oléron.
