Marennes Oléron Oysters: One PGI and two Red Labels

Thanks to the refining in claires, the Marennes Oléron oyster acquires an inimitable taste, a fleshy, firm and crunchy texture at the same time! Jewels of local gastronomy, the Fine de Claire verte and the Pousse en Claire (both stamped Label Rouge), but also the Spéciale can be enjoyed all year round! Our suggestion: eat them plain, with a dash of lemon or shallot vinegar, bread and butter!

Fish and Seafood from Oléron

Line-caught sea bass, turbot, meagre, sea bream, sole, céteaux, langoustines, lobsters… in total, there are nearly 90 species of fish that come fresh out of the holds of the fishing boats of La Cotinière. The best place to buy the best fish? The “Marché de la Victorine” in La Cotinière of course! Oléron Island also has traditional beechwood smoked salmon, a speciality not to be missed!

Smoked Mussels with Pine Needles

Who has never tasted the famous bouchot mussels during their holidays in Charente-Maritime? On the island of Oléron, they are prepared in "églade", cooked in pine needles. Accompanied by a glass of Charente wine, it is a real treat and we quickly forget the mussels and chips!

Charentais Wines, Cognac and Pineaux

Obtained by mixing grape must and Cognac brandy, Pineau des Charentes is a sweet wine with a sweet taste that is served as an aperitif. You will appreciate it chilled and preferably without ice. For special occasions, set your sights on a cognac aged in oak barrels for many years! Around a good meal, opt for a bottle of Vin de Pays charentais – Île d'Oléron (IGP) red, rosé or white. To be consumed in moderation of course!

The fleur de sel of the port of Salines

These small white crystals that form on the surface of the salt marshes are the "white gold" of the Oléron salt workers. With its unparalleled whiteness and flavor, Fleur de Sel accompanies cooked fish or meat dishes and gives pure butter Charentaise caramels and pancakes a unique taste. Don't hesitate to bring some back, because it will quickly become an essential ingredient in your kitchen!
From the campsite in Oléron, you will set off on a gastronomic journey that will not leave you indifferent.
