Idea for a Camping Trip in Oleron

The warm weather is back! Here are some ideas for walks to enjoy spring on the Île d'Oléron in anticipation of the Easter holidays and the long May weekends, which are fast approaching!

A visit to the Fort Royer oyster farm

South of Boyardville, the Fort Royer oyster farm organizes guided walks and hikes from April to discover the history of traditional and modern oyster farming in Oléron. At low tide, you can visit the parks oysters from the Marennes-Oléron Basin, observe the fauna and flora of the Moëze-Oléron Nature Reserve, walk in the footsteps of a farmer-refiner among the oyster beds, channels and traditional cabins in shimmering colors to finish with a little oyster tasting... Ideal for combining gastronomy and discovery of an exceptional natural and cultural heritage!

A little tour of the Dolus d'Oléron Bird Marsh

In the heart of the island of Oléron, the Bird Marsh promises you wonderful encounters with nature. It is both an educational discovery park and a wildlife conservation center. Within a protected natural area of 10 hectares, through woods and marshes, a landscaped trail marked with information panels allows you to become familiar with the species living on the site: spoonbills, wild geese and ducks, egrets, black-bellied plovers, kestrels, but also sheep, bats, roe deer... From spring, many nature activities are offered for families: photo outings, guided tours of the park, night walks, treasure hunts for children...

A walk in the Chassiron lighthouse garden

At the foot of the famous Chassiron lighthouse, discover an astonishing garden in the shape of a compass rose. A garden labeled "remarkable" and awarded a gold medal at the Victoires du Paysage, this small green setting unfolds around four ponds. A "contemporary" garden section is decorated with plants from around the world (grasses, irises, lilies, boxwood, etc.) and numerous aquatic species (papyrus, arums, reeds, mint, etc.). The "traditional" garden section is covered with roses (around twenty different varieties), vines, and a vegetable garden once used by the lighthouse keeper. To better appreciate its splendor, you can of course climb to the top of the lighthouse, which offers a bird's eye view of the garden. Not to be missed: the "Rendez-vous aux jardins" (Garden Rendezvous) which takes place the first weekend in June!

A stopover at the port of La Cotinière

The little one port of La Cotinière Saint-Pierre-d'Oléron is one of the most typical places on the island of Oléron. The first fishing port in Charente-Maritime, La Cotinière is a real invitation to stroll. We love strolling around the port and the narrow streets of the old village, doing some shopping in the boutiques, sunbathing on the terraces of the cafés and restaurants while waiting for the colorful boats to return to the dock and the fish to be sold at auction... In short, a must-see stroll if you are staying a few days at a campsite in Oléron!

A horseback ride between forest, beach, vineyards and marshes

Take advantage of the arrival of the fine weather to experience the joys of horse riding on the island of Oléron. equestrian center is located in the heart of our camping on the island of Oléron ! On the program: beautiful walks and treks on horseback or pony in the marshes, in the forest, in the vineyards and on the magnificent Oléron beaches.
