The coastal town also shares all the charms of a small tourist and family seaside resort with its pretty and flowery alleys, its pretty strip of sand and its colorful beach huts, its old windmill and its salt marshes.<\/p>\n<h2>A small village full of charm and character<\/h2>\n<p>Nestled between\u00a0<strong>Saint-Georges-d&#039;Oleron<\/strong>\u00a0And\u00a0<strong>Saint-Denis-d&#039;Oleron,<\/strong>\u00a020 km from\u00a0<a title=\"camping\" href=\"https:\/\/camping-les-embruns-oleron.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">camping<\/a>,\u00a0<strong>The Bree-les-Bains<\/strong>\u00a0is one of the oldest villages on the island. It is also the smallest village after Le\u00a0<strong>Grand-Village-Beach,<\/strong>\u00a0with less than 700 inhabitants year-round, but many more in the summer.<\/p>\n<p>Hidden behind a small dune, the peaceful hamlet has managed to preserve its authenticity and its old-world charm. In the 19th century, the writer\u00a0<strong>Pierre Loti<\/strong>\u00a0spoke of it with tenderness in &quot;Le roman d&#039;un enfant&quot;. The small white houses, huddled against each other, line the pretty and flowery alleys that go down to the beach. In the heart of the village stands a small atypical church. Its originality lies in its design. The stones come from the &quot;Rocher de fer&quot; cut on the foreshore and its bell tower is inspired by campaniles and comb bell towers.<\/p>\n<p>At the entrance to the village, surrounded by flax flowers, the mill of\u00a0<strong>The Fountain<\/strong>\u00a0is one of the best preserved and oldest of\u00a0<strong>Oleron Island<\/strong>\u00a0(17th century). According to the latest news, a miller was being sought to bring the mill of\u00a0<strong>The Bree<\/strong>\u00a0and make flour after a century of inactivity. Notice to candidates! Between\u00a0<strong>La Br\u00e9e and Saint-Denis<\/strong>, the coast accompanies the walker to an old fish lock rebuilt and restored as a fishery, visible at low tide. Present since the Middle Ages, the\u00a0<a title=\"fish locks\" href=\"https:\/\/camping-les-embruns-oleron.com\/en\/patrimoine-les-ecluses-a-poissons-d-oleron\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fish locks<\/a>\u00a0are one of the oldest examples of built heritage that can still be discovered in\u00a0<strong>Oleron Island<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>La Br\u00e9e-les-Bains, sea side and beach side<\/h2>\n<p>Bathed by the strait\u00a0<strong>from Antioch,<\/strong>\u00a0the small coastal village reveals a pleasant seafront developed over more than 4 kilometers along the ocean. On foot or by bike, the walk is worth the detour. The setting is magnificent with a beautiful panorama of the continent,\u00a0<strong>La Rochelle<\/strong>\u00a0has\u00a0<strong>Rochefort,<\/strong>\u00a0passing by\u00a0<strong>Aix Island<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a title=\"Fort Boyard\" href=\"https:\/\/camping-les-embruns-oleron.com\/en\/where-can-we-enjoy-the-best-views-of-fort-boyard-from-oleron-the-answer-is-in-this-article\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fort Boyard<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Beach lovers and water sports enthusiasts will not be left out. The beach of\u00a0<strong>Planginot<\/strong>\u00a0is a pretty beach of fine sand, where families enjoy the joys of swimming in complete tranquility. The beach of the\u00a0<strong>Bree<\/strong>\u00a0is sheltered from the wind by century-old cypress trees and the colorful bathing cabins add extra charm to the place. As a bonus, a pretty view of\u00a0<strong>the island of re<\/strong>\u00a0and the coast of La Rochelle in the distance. The northern part is reserved for water sports, including windsurfing and jet skiing. In season, a sailing school sets up its summer quarters on the beach. At low tide, the sea uncovers a wide rocky foreshore that attracts\u00a0<a title=\"clam fishermen\" href=\"https:\/\/camping-les-embruns-oleron.com\/en\/tout-savoir-ou-presque-sur-la-peche-a-pied-a-l-ile-d-oleron\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">clam fishermen<\/a>, periwinkles, scallops and shrimps.<\/p>\n<h2>A little tour through the salt marshes of La Br\u00e9e<\/h2>\n<p>Salt marsh cultivation is a preserved activity on\u00a0<strong>Oleron Island<\/strong>, in particular to\u00a0<strong>The Bree-les-Bains<\/strong>. A guided tour of the marsh of\u00a0<strong>the island<\/strong>\u00a0is offered from mid-June to mid-September.
